Marina's Bio

Marina Dmukhovskaya is a sports journalist and a professor living in Boulder, Colorado. Since 2014, Marina has been covering the Olympics unveiling athletes’ stories at Sochi-2014, PyeongChang-2018, Tokyo-2020 and Beijing-2022 working for the International Paralympic Committee, International Biathlon Union and later for the Olympic Channel.

In summer 2019, she crossed the longest railroad in the world, the Transsiberian, from Moscow to Vladivostok to get a different perspective on storytelling outside sports. The journey turned into a trilingual project and podcast (www.mesto47.org) about the lives of people in the Russian Federation. The project has been published in several media outlets, including Afisha and The Moscow Times.

In 2023, she became a Communications/Advocacy Trainer for Sports for Humanity campaign run by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and sponsored by Turkish Airlines. She developed and executed capacity building training for 10 NGOs in sports across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Marina is currently teaching at the University of Colorado, Boulder and serves as a director of their sports media minor program. Prior to this position, she taught at several other institutions, including Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO), University of Oregon (Eugene) and Indiana University.

 

Marina has a PhD (cum laude) in Journalism and Communication from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and MA from Indiana University in East Asian studies. She received her BA in International Relations from Moscow University of International Relations.

Marina is a polyglot and speaks six languages: fluent English, Korean and French as well as native Russian and intermediate level of Spanish and German. In her free time, she enjoys cross country skiing, hiking and reading.
